Feedback from Preliminary Task

Hey Guys, 
Today I am going to be commenting on the feedback that was given to me by Mr Welch on our 1 minute music video task. Before the summer break, me and the rest of my group created a 1 minute music video to 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' by Cyndi Lauper. We created this for practise for our final piece, which is a full length music video. We have received feedback that will hopefully help us for next time when we make our final production of a music video, from this feedback we are able to reflect on it and make sure that we don't make the same mistakes again next time. 
Here is the feedback we got given: 
Feedback on one minute music video (July 16)

Areas of strength:
  • Strong opening with well-chosen transitions and consideration of mise-en-scene
  • Well framed shots and variety of shot types
  • Images and sound are well edited

     

Areas for development:
  • It’s not always a good idea to have a single vocal track performed by 3 people unless it’s part of the narrative; consider characterisation a bit more clearly
  • Try and maintain the impact of the first 20 seconds – this is a common issue with student music videos

Indicative Level:
Level 2 – Basic


From reading this back, I can clearly see the strong points of the video and what needs improving. For next time we need to make sure that we try and make the first 20 seconds the best 20 seconds of the whole video, or something to keep the audience entertained, this sets the scene of the whole music video and is very important and is something we need to take into careful consideration for when we do our final production. Another improvement we had been given by Mr Welch was performing the track with maybe 1 person instead of 3 people, as the vocal track was performed by just 1 person. We doing our final production, I think it is important that we sort out who will be starring in it and how many people etc.

Due to the audience feedback we received, it gave us a good insight into our music video through the eyes of the audience. This enabled us to reflect on the positives and areas of improvement of our overall product and learn from our audience feedback given. It also allowed The majority of people voted positively towards our product, which can be portrayed throughout our video and enabled us to see the different ages and genres react to our products.

Filming: Day Two

Hey guys!  So today we filmed in our second location. We filmed within the woods and next to the pond. We managed to get a wide variety of shots, this includes shots such as a mid shot, high angle, over-the-shoulder, tracking and panning shots to ensure that we had a variety of different shots in different locations to keep the audience interested whilst watching the music video. We made sure on the day that we didn't forget our storyboard, as this would direct us so we miss any shots and risk having to come back to re-film. A problem with re-filming and why we made sure we had a variety of shots was that the weather may have changed or Amy could look different compared to the first shots we took, this would make it as the consistency of the shots would be an issue.  To achieve the shots we used the tripod for stable shots and a shoulder mount for the steady tracking shots.
